Key Insights to Help You Thrive!

Enhancing Workplace Recognition Techniques"

Increasing Visibility in Meetings
Visibility in meetings is crucial for career advancement. To ensure you are both seen and heard:

  • prepare thoroughly before each meeting

  • know the agenda,

  • understand the topics being discussed

  • come ready with insightful questions or comments

Speaking up early in the meeting can help establish your presence. Use clear, confident language and, when relevant, support your points with data or examples.

Consider strategic seating: sitting at the center of the table or where you can easily make eye contact with the meeting leader. Follow up the meeting with an email summarizing key action items you or the team has committed to, reinforcing your value and active participation to all attendees.

Creating and Communicating Value
To further communicate the value you bring to your team and organization, start by regularly documenting your accomplishments. Keep a "success portfolio" to record outcomes, feedback, and specific metrics that quantify your impact (make sure this includes economic impact as well). This record is not only a personal motivator but also a crucial tool during performance reviews and negotiations. You can use this as a tool to increase your influence.

Develop a value proposition that clearly outlines how your work aligns with your organization’s goals. For instance, if you've streamlined a process that saved time and reduced errors, quantify these improvements and share your methods and results in a way that highlights your proactive problem-solving ability.

Mastering Self-Advocacy
Self-advocacy is crucial for career progression. It involves effectively communicating your achievements to ensure they are recognized. One way to do this is to request regular feedback sessions with your strategic partner, where you can discuss their goals and strategic priorities. This is also the perfect time to present your success portfolio.

Be proactive in seeking opportunities to demonstrate your skills and value. Volunteer for visible projects, especially those that align with your strengths and allow you to interact with senior management.

When you achieve a win, communicate it appropriately through project updates or team meetings, linking your actions to positive outcomes for the team or company.
